My Training and Interest in Complementary Therapies
Hi Greta here, Complementary therapies have been part of me for over 20 years now, with my practice of Reiki and more recently Reflexology and EFT.
My training as an Occupational therapist back in 1997 opened me up to the world of meditation, visualisation, health and wellbeing and the wholistic view of us humans, how we approach and experience the world. It has really set the foundations of my professional development as a complementary therapy practitioner. Like many others though, the temptations of the world set me on a different path post my OT training and I found myself in my late twenties, my mid thirties and again in my early forties, with everything worldly going for me, yet still not being satisfied. Somewhere in that restlessness, was the clarity I needed to come back more fully into the world I started off in 27 years ago. And so, JustForToday was born, through 27 years of pondering. Sometimes it takes that long for realisations to occur, and that is ok, it is never too late :).
My experiences have time and time confirmed to me that we need to :
- Embrace modern medicine, take this a step further and complement aspects of modern medicine with age old traditional and complementary therapies that focus on wellbeing to minimise chronic disease .
- Adopt an individual approach to health and ill health.
- Perhaps consider embracing health and well being as a priority to minimise disease and dependency on drugs to regain health.
We can only achieve this by living our daily lives with as much balance as we can. That balance is a very personal thing. There is NO one size fits all.
My dearest mother had a stroke at a young age, with none of the risk factors, according to modern medicine. To us, it was obvious - Mental workload and stress on her plate. The medical profession helped my mum through the acute phase of her illness, it was Occupational & Physical therapy, the reiki, her daily practice of yoga and pranayama (breath work) and her attitude that made her against all odds, drive again (drive a mini bus at work!) and continue being one of the most active person I know. She cannot undo the past, but mum has learnt from it and her focus on health and wellbeing has kept her free from any other illness for over 25 years now. Amazing woman.
